Subscription tiers
What you can create on the platform depends on your subscription tier. Your tier is set on your account and is reflected everywhere limits apply.
The three tiers are Free, Membership, and Enterprise.

When you reach a limit, the platform tells you and points you to upgrade. Removing a resource frees capacity again.
Monthly relayed data
Section titled “Monthly relayed data”The 100 GB Free-tier allowance counts relayed transfer only — data that travels through the platform’s TURN relay because the two servers could not open a direct path. Traffic that flows directly between servers is not counted. The Billing page shows a live gauge of your usage against the allowance, a breakdown of relayed versus direct traffic, and your month-by-month history.
The Free allowance is enforced, not advisory. When a Free account passes 100 GB in a calendar month, its data connections move to Suspended (data cap) and data stops. It resumes automatically at the start of the next UTC month, or immediately if you upgrade. Paid tiers are never stopped — their usage is billed instead.
What the Free tier can do during the open beta
Section titled “What the Free tier can do during the open beta”During the open beta, the Free tier can exchange data end to end. On Free you can:
- Publish channels for OpenShare connections, with no limit on how many.
- Browse the Directory and send contact requests to start an agreement.
- Exchange data with another Free organization, within the 100 GB monthly relayed-data allowance above.
Build Free-tier channels with managed channels. The manual Gateway Listener and Gateway Sender connectors in the Mirth channel editor are still gated to paid tiers — see Gateway Connector.
What the paid tiers unlock
Section titled “What the paid tiers unlock”Paid tiers raise the resource limits above and add:
- Cross-organization Query/Retrieve.
- Sponsored connections — a paid account can fund connections on behalf of Free partners, so the Free side exchanges data at no cost.
- Uninterrupted data — paid usage is billed, never stopped at a cap.
When the beta ends, paid tiers also keep the sharing capabilities listed above (initiating agreements, Directory access, and funding connectors).
The remote admin console is not tier-gated. On any tier, what you can do over a console connection depends on how that connection was provisioned — read-write or read-only — and on the organization’s security policy, which can cap console access at read-only or disable it entirely.
How your tier is determined
Section titled “How your tier is determined”Your effective tier comes from your account’s subscription. If your organization manages billing, an administrator can change it. Some accounts may have an administrative override. Whatever the source, the platform always uses your effective tier consistently across the app and the documentation features it controls.
Changing your tier
Section titled “Changing your tier”To upgrade or change billing, use the billing options on your Billing page, or contact your administrator. Your connected servers pick up the updated plan entitlements shortly after the change lands. The web app reflects the new tier the next time it refreshes your account details (for example, on reload or when you revisit a billing or account page); signing out and back in always picks it up.
